Salkantay Trek- Trip of a lifetime!

My two friends and I did the Salkantay Trek with Elvis in 2013. We are world travelers and by far this was one of our favorite trips. There are many companies out there, but Elvis' company is the best. Everything was so well organized. For the price, it is an incredible deal. Elvis speaks perfect English and Spanish and was a very entertaining guide. He taught us all about the culture and pointed out interesting things along the way. The trek is physically exhausting, but Elvis' positive attitude helped us conquer the mountains. I highly recommend hiking poles. I didn't have any but Elvis let me borrow his. The trek also included porters and a cook. They would set up camp for us and prepare meals, so all you had to worry about was hiking. The food and water are very safe (a big worry when traveling abroad). Every morning they would greet us by our tent with coffee or coca tea (a staple in Peru), which was such a nice touch. In the evening we would have an amazing dinner which included Pisco Sours (delicious Peruvian beverage). This is a very authentic trip. One night we camped in a small village and we were the only hikers there! It was so much fun talking with the locals. At the end of the trek with stayed in a hostel near Machu Picchu. The next morning Elvis went with us to the ruins and told us all about the history. I cannot say enough nice things about Elvis and his team! Please tip them well, because they work incredibly hard!!!
