In 2024, the regulations for the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, which is manage by the Ministry of Culture of Peru, were updated. What changes were made? In summary, the variety of tickets and circuits inside the citadel were increased, these circuits include the visit to the Inti Punku or Sun Gate which is located in the highest part of the citadel of Machu Picchu.

Note: It is important to remember that the entrance tickets to Machu Picchu are limited by day and by the high demand, we recommend buying the tickets with at least 3 months in advance.

Availability for the entrance to Machu Picchu 2024-2025

Machu Picchu, being considered a wonder of the world and cultural heritage, has a large number of visitors every day. In this blog, we will constantly repeat the fact that the purchase of the entrance tickets to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu must be done with months in advance.

What changes were made in the sanctuary of Machu Picchu?

During 2024 there were different changes in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, within all the changes made we will give you a chronological list of the most important ones.

  • On January 31, 2023, the Ministerial Resolution 000047-2023-MC was issued, stating that from 2024, the entries to Machu Picchu will be increased.
  • The entrance hours to the Inca citadel were established, starting from 6:00 am and consecutively in the following hours: 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm.
  • After the pandemic, the rule for the use of masks has been changed, now it is recommended, not mandatory.
  • The tour around the citadel of Machu Picchu can be done individually without the need of hiring a guide tour. (Note: In order to not miss any detail of the sanctuary of Machu Picchu and how was the construction is important to have a professional guide tour). 
  • The maximum duration that your ticket allows you to stay at the citadel is 2hrs and 30min, this time is considered since the moment you pass the entrance control (Note: In case you consider that the time is too short, you can ask how to extend your stay to the sales advisors) 
  • The most important part of the changes is the type of tickets that were added between the months of May and June of 2024, variants of tickets were added and in total there are 10 types of tickets that allow you to enter the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu: "ticket Machu Picchu Classic – Route 1-B Upper Terraces", "ticket schedules with Mountain – Circuit 1 – Route 1 – A", "ticket Machu Picchu with Inti Punku – Circuit 1 – Route 1-C", "ticket Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge – Circuit 1", "ticket Classic Photo Machu Picchu – Route 2-A Design Route", "ticket Circuit of the Llaqta – Route 2-B Lower Terrace Route", "ticket Machu Picchu Classic Lower Terrace – Route 3-B Design Route", "ticket Machu Picchu with Huayna Picchu – Route 3 - A", "ticket Machu Picchu with Great Cavern Route – Route 3 - C" and "ticket Machu Picchu with Huchuy Picchu – Route 3 - D".

Important: Within these modifications you should take into consideration that you will not be able to re-enter the historical sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu Schedules in 2024 – 2025

Since May 2024 there are a total of 10 types of official entrance, as permanent changes to prevail the historical heritage of Machu Picchu, the circuits and types of entrance to Machu Picchu were modified, which are divided into the following groups and schedules:

Schedules for the ticket Machu Picchu Classic – Route 1-B Upper Terraces

  • Group 1: The entrance is available from 6 am to 7 am.
  • Group 2: The entrance is available from 7 am to 8 am.
  • Group 3: The entrance is available from 8 am to 9 am.
  • Group 4: The entrance is available from 9 am to 10 am.
  • Group 5: The entrance is available from 10 am to 11 am.
  • Group 6: The entrance is available from 11 am to 12 pm.
  • Group 7: The entrance is available from 12 pm to 1 pm.
  • Group 8: The entrance is available from 1 pm to 2 pm.
  • Group 9: The entrance is available from 2 pm to 3 pm.
  • Group 10: The entrance is available from 3 pm to 4 pm.

  • Group 1: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 6 am to 6:30 am, while the entry to the Mountain Machu Picchu is until 8 am.
  • Group 2: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 9 am to 9:30 am, while the entry to the Mountain Machu Picchu is until 10 am.

  • Group 1: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 6 am to 6:30 am, while the entry to Huayna Picchu is until 8 am.
  • Group 2: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 9 am to 9:30 am, while the entry to Huayna Picchu is until 11 am.

Schedules for the ticket Machu Picchu with Great Cavern Route – Route 3 - C

  • Group 1: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 6 am to 6:30 am, while the entry to the Great Cavern Route is until 8 am.
  • Group 2: The entrance to Machu Picchu is from 9 am to 9:30 am, while the entry to the Great Cavern Route is until 11 am.
     

Machu Picchu ticket transfer rules since June 2024
