This trekking route to Machu Picchu is situated in Cusco region, nearest to Vilcanota mountains chain on the Peruvian andes. This hike starts from Cusco city then we will drive til Mollepata town (2.5 hours bus trip approx.), it is little town where we will stop to supply water and make some last minutes purchases, afterwards we will continue our bus trip to Soraypampa til to reach our trailhead.

Itinerary of 5 Days w Inca Trail
Our adventure will start at 05:30 am approx. picking up our visitors from your Cusco hotel and along with our guide and staff to lead you to Mollepata town for 2 .5 hours approx. and will stop here to have breakfast and use the restrooms. Then we will board our transportation for another 50 minutes til reaching Soraypampa (3900 m.a.s.l) our starting trekking point, situated underneath our protector snowcapped mountains Humantay and Salkantay.
Our tour guide will introduce to you our staff members that will accompany us during this journey, after that our hike towards Humantay lagoon (4200 m.a.s.l) will start, this hike will take 1.5 hrs approx. while you enjoy this fantastic mountain views surrounding the path until reaching this amazing natural formation. You will also have time to enjoy the views and take some photos after a brief guide explanation. Finishing this visit we will return to our lunch place and stay here for 1 hour approx. to enjoy your meal and use the restrooms. Afterwards we will continue our hike for 1.5 hrs approx. to our campiste located on Salkantaypampa which is almost under Salkantay mountain and situated at 4300 m.a.s.l. to enjoy the stunning view and prepare for your hot shower (we provide you towels) after a fabolous day, then also enjoy your happy hour with hot drinks after that you will get your delicious dinner
Our second hiking day will start at 6:00 am with tent service and a hot coca tea which is good for the altitude, and then you will have breakfast in our dining tent. Following breakfast our hike will start for 2.5 hours approx. until reach Salkantay Pass (4626 m.a.s.l) which is the highest point of this adventure and in which we will appreciate the majestic Salkantay mountain considered one of the highest peaks on South America. Here, our guide will provide you better information about our culture and then you will visit Salkantay lagoon which is located under Salkantay Mountain.
Finishing the explanation the descend towards Wayracmachay (3900 m.a.s.l) will start and we will stop here for 1 hour, then we will continue descending to cloud forests which belong to Machupicchu National park and here, our flora and fauna drastically change so we can have possibilities to see a lot of orchids and birds like hummingbirds which are relatable to tropical forests. We will have impressive views of Salkantay and tropical forests. After hiking for another 3 hours we will reach our campsite: a small village called Chaullay in which we will have local people living at the village. we are going to get ready your hot showers then you could enjoy your free time, having hot drinks snaks and dinner.
Upon completion of this day, we will have a moment of relax and enjoy some hot beverages as chocolate, coffee, teas, and have our dinner later.
We will start with a delicious tropical breakfast and our hike will start very lightly surrounded by a lush vegetation and abundant fauna, you will hike through valleys, canyons, rivers traversing plantations of corn, passion fruit, oranges, avocados, coffee. This day is considered for relax and to make cultural visits to interact with local people, you have also the opportunity to visit coffee plantations and taste some exotic beverages of the zone as coffee liquor, coffee cocktail, honey liquor or mead. After this tasting we will reach our destination approx. 5 hours to Playa Sahuayacu which is a small town and our third campsite, we will enjoy lunch here as well.
After lunch we will have a transportation for 45 mins approx. and then reach Santa Teresa district, after another 10 mins we will reach the thermo medicinal Cocalmayo baths which are highly recommended to visit. Once we finish our visit we will return to our campsite to enjoy a bottle of peruvian wine then your dinner and have some well-deserved rest as there are still some days left to continue our adventure before reaching our main destination, Machupicchu.
Our fourth day will start early in the morning with our wake-up tea and beautiful birds singing. Then, it will be time to get ready and have a delicious breakfast, fill our bottles, camelbacks and take our snacks to start our hike. We will depart from Lucmabamba village until reaching Llaqtapata archaeological site which will take 6 kilometers approx. Once in Llaqtapata we will have the stunning view of Machupicchu inca citadel as well as Huayna Picchu mountain and the greatest Andes mountain chain.
Our lunch today will be at Llaqtapata restaurant which is located 5 mins away from this archaeological site and you will have an impressive view of Machupicchu as well.
Afterwards we will iniciate our descent to Ahobamba valley and Machupicchu Hydroelectric in which a train station is located, here we will board our short train ride (30 mins) towards Aguas Calientes town in which you will have a 2 stars hotel accommodation. This evening you will have dinner at a touristic restaurant and have the briefing to plan your agenda for tomorrow and be able to see the sunrise at Machupicchu before your guided tour.
We advise to wake up very early in order to board one of the first buses to reach Machupicchu inca citadel and appreciate the impressive sunrise over it as it is a unique experience. Then you will have a private guided tour by our expert tour guide which will lasts 2.5 hours including a lot of information about our inca culture, considered one of the most importants in South America with an ample extension in this continent.
Once you had finished your guided tour and taking the beautiful Machupicchu postal photo, you will have time to rest and make the visit to some important places as Huayna picchu or Machu Picchu mountains (we advise you to request the ticket at booking time) or walk to Sun Gate, or Inca bridge in Machupicchu.
Following your experience, for your return you will board the bus back to Aguas Calients and then from here according to train schedule you should present at train station half hour prior your train departure time. The train will arrive to Ollantaytambo train station and from here our transfer will be waiting for you to return back to Cusco city and your respective hotels, arriving by 20:30 pm approx.

How do i get the student ISIC card discount?
Eligible students can receive a discount. You must possess a valid and current internationally accepted ISIC card in your name. You can apply for an ISIC Card at https://www.isic.org/. Please provide a copy of your ISIC card at the time of your booking by sending it to info@kenkoadventures.com.
How do I qualify for the student discount? (-$20)
According to Peruvian government laws, to qualify for the student discount, you must be under 18 years of age at the time of your trek, tour, or visit to Machu Picchu (students aged 18 and above generally require an ISIC card). For example, if you book a trek at 17 but turn 18 before your trek date, you will not qualify for the discount. Students from 12 to 17 years old receive a $20 discount, as do children from 2 to 12 years old. Children aged 0 to 2 are free. All students must send a copy of their passport at the time of booking to receive the discount; please send it to info@kenkoadventures.com.
How is the climate in Cusco?
The climate in Peru is highly variable and does not conform to the typical four seasons. Here in the Andes, you can experience all seasons in a single day! This is why we always recommend our visitors prepare for any occasion, whether it's for rain or sunny days. A significant factor affecting our global climate is global warming, which has contributed to glacier melting in the Peruvian Andes, impacting our weather patterns. Nonetheless, Peru, and particularly Andean cities like Cusco, have two main seasons:
- Dry Season: Generally from the end of April until the end of September, with the first rains beginning towards the end of this period. This is often considered the best time to visit our region and the amazing Machu Picchu to avoid inconveniences.
- Rainy Season: This season typically runs from October until the end of April. How to book the tour?

Huayna Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)
This iconic Huayna Picchu Mountain is located within Machu Picchu Archaeological Park, towering approximately 300 meters above the citadel. The hike typically takes about 45 minutes to ascend and another 45 minutes to descend. This Mountain preserves fascinating archaeological remains, such as the Moon Temple, and other precincts interconnected by authentic trails, steps, tunnels, and natural caves, making the view incredibly interesting. Without a doubt, this is one of the best attractions of Machu Picchu; the Huayna Picchu Mountain offers a 360-degree view and a stunning panorama of Machu Picchu Inca Citadel, Machu Picchu Mountain, and the famous Inti Punku (Sun’s Gate). Currently, the Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Culture, controls visitor entry, offering only 400 tickets per day, divided into two groups of 200 each (7:00-8:00 AM and 10:00-11:00 AM schedules). Due to high demand, it is necessary to make a booking at least 3 months in advance to guarantee your visit to this extraordinary place.

Machu Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)
This majestic Machu Picchu Mountain is also located inside the park, a hike of only 1 hour and 20 minutes on your own. Once you reach the summit, you will capture impressive photos with panoramic views of the entire valley, encompassing Machu Picchu Inca citadel, impressive vistas of the Andes Mountain range, and the glaciers that protect this unique ecosystem. The demand for permits for this hike is growing quickly, so we advise booking tickets a minimum of 2 months in advance, as there is a limit of 200 people per group per schedule (7:00-8:00 AM and 9:00-10:00 AM).
May I change the departure date after the tickets have been bought?
Unfortunately, no. Once the tickets have been purchased, the government does not allow any changes. Tickets are strictly non-transferable and non-refundable. We strongly advise you to confirm your travel dates before booking your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour.

What about the balance?
We greatly appreciate it if our clients can pay the remaining balance in cash (US dollars or Peruvian soles) during your briefing time at the hotel here in Cusco. Kenko Adventures Peru is going to give you a duffel bag for your hiking tour at briefing time mostly a day berofe prior to the trek. The duffel bag accommodates up to 6 kg of your personal items and a sleeping bag. Our Porters or horses will carry those bags, camping equipment and food. The maximum weight allowed by Peruvian law to be carried by a Porter is 23 kg (this consists of 18 kg of load + 5 kg of Porter's personal items). Things excessing the maximum weight are carried by you unless you hire an Extra Porter. You have to bring a small daypack to pack your personal ítems for the day hike as water bottle, a camera and sun protection cream as you will have access to your dufle bags carried by the Porter sor horses at Lunch time and at the campsites because Porters always go ahead the group but the group is going to join for lunch and you can get your dufle bags.
Appropriate guear for Inca Trail or alternative hikes to Machu Picchu
We higltly recomend hiking pants and long sleeved T-shirts during the day, fleeces and waterproof jackets. It traveller are coming during the rainy season so we Recomend (rain poncho or jacket and/or rain pants) as the weather changes very frequently. We over camping nights we recomend warm clothing is required, down jackets can be useful. Can I store my luggage at your office?
Of course! During your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, your main luggage can be stored safely at our office or at your hotel. Both options are free of charge. We advise you not to pack anything you will not need for your hike, ensuring you can trek light.
Do I need my original passport for the Cusco Machu Picchu tour?
Yes, it is essential to bring your original passport for your Cusco Machu Picchu tour. The passport number must match the one you provided at the time of booking, as rangers at Machu Picchu and train companies will meticulously check it before allowing entry or boarding. In case you are changing your passport or have lost it and obtained a new one, please send us your new passport information immediately to secure your permit and prevent any surprises upon arrival.
How do i get the student ISIC card discount?
Eligible students can receive a discount. You must possess a valid and current internationally accepted ISIC card in your name. You can apply for an ISIC Card at https://www.isic.org/. Please provide a copy of your ISIC card at the time of your booking by sending it to info@kenkoadventures.com.
How do I qualify for the student discount? (-$20)
According to Peruvian government laws, to qualify for the student discount, you must be under 18 years of age at the time of your trek, tour, or visit to Machu Picchu (students aged 18 and above generally require an ISIC card). For example, if you book a trek at 17 but turn 18 before your trek date, you will not qualify for the discount. Students from 12 to 17 years old receive a $20 discount, as do children from 2 to 12 years old. Children aged 0 to 2 are free. All students must send a copy of their passport at the time of booking to receive the discount; please send it to info@kenkoadventures.com.
How is the climate in Cusco?
The climate in Peru is highly variable and does not conform to the typical four seasons. Here in the Andes, you can experience all seasons in a single day! This is why we always recommend our visitors prepare for any occasion, whether it's for rain or sunny days. A significant factor affecting our global climate is global warming, which has contributed to glacier melting in the Peruvian Andes, impacting our weather patterns. Nonetheless, Peru, and particularly Andean cities like Cusco, have two main seasons:
- Dry Season: Generally from the end of April until the end of September, with the first rains beginning towards the end of this period. This is often considered the best time to visit our region and the amazing Machu Picchu to avoid inconveniences.
- Rainy Season: This season typically runs from October until the end of April. During this time, we advise all visitors to pack their belongings into waterproof bags, as sunny mornings can quickly turn into heavy rain. We understand that extreme climates exist worldwide, but this should not deter your desire to explore the world, discover marvelous cultures, and interact with them. Welcome to Peru and Machu Picchu.
How to book the tour?
To book our tour, we need you to fill out our booking form with your personal information by clicking on BOOK NOW. Please be ready with the following information for each participant in your group, exactly as it appears on your passport: full name, gender, passport number, date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy), and nationality. We cannot purchase an entrance to Machu Picchu or your train ticket without this precise information.
Huayna Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)
This iconic Huayna Picchu Mountain is located within Machu Picchu Archaeological Park, towering approximately 300 meters above the citadel. The hike typically takes about 45 minutes to ascend and another 45 minutes to descend. This Mountain preserves fascinating archaeological remains, such as the Moon Temple, and other precincts interconnected by authentic trails, steps, tunnels, and natural caves, making the view incredibly interesting. Without a doubt, this is one of the best attractions of Machu Picchu; the Huayna Picchu Mountain offers a 360-degree view and a stunning panorama of Machu Picchu Inca Citadel, Machu Picchu Mountain, and the famous Inti Punku (Sun’s Gate). Currently, the Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Culture, controls visitor entry, offering only 400 tickets per day, divided into two groups of 200 each (7:00-8:00 AM and 10:00-11:00 AM schedules). Due to high demand, it is necessary to make a booking at least 3 months in advance to guarantee your visit to this extraordinary place.

Machu Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)
This majestic Machu Picchu Mountain is also located inside the park, a hike of only 1 hour and 20 minutes on your own. Once you reach the summit, you will capture impressive photos with panoramic views of the entire valley, encompassing Machu Picchu Inca citadel, impressive vistas of the Andes Mountain range, and the glaciers that protect this unique ecosystem. The demand for permits for this hike is growing quickly, so we advise booking tickets a minimum of 2 months in advance, as there is a limit of 200 people per group per schedule (7:00-8:00 AM and 9:00-10:00 AM).
May I change the departure date after the tickets have been bought?
Unfortunately, no. Once the tickets have been purchased, the government does not allow any changes. Tickets are strictly non-transferable and non-refundable. We strongly advise you to confirm your travel dates before booking your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour.
Note: If you cancel your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, the deposit is not refundable at all!

The briefing
We are always flexible to accommodate your schedule for the briefing. We can visit you at your hotel at 6 PM, or if you prefer, during the day between 9 AM to 1 PM or 3 PM to 5 PM. Welcome to Cusco
We offer a warm welcome upon your arrival in Cusco. We will meet you at Cusco airport and provide private transportation directly to your hotel. To ensure a seamless arrival, please send us your flight details at least 14 days prior to your trek or tour. Look out for our representative holding a Kenko Adventures logo at the arrival terminal. This service can be arranged on any date that best suits your travel plans.
What about the balance?
We greatly appreciate it if our clients can pay the remaining balance in cash (US dollars or Peruvian soles) during your briefing time at the hotel here in Cusco. For your convenience, there are many cash machines in the historical center for withdrawals. You can also pay the balance easily via PAYPAL Online.

Kenko Adventures Peru is going to give you a duffel bag for your hiking tour at briefing time mostly a day berofe prior to the trek. The duffel bag accommodates up to 6 kg of your personal items and a sleeping bag. Our Porters or horses will carry those bags, camping equipment and food. The maximum weight allowed by Peruvian law to be carried by a Porter is 23 kg (this consists of 18 kg of load + 5 kg of Porter's personal items). Things excessing the maximum weight are carried by you unless you hire an Extra Porter. You have to bring a small daypack to pack your personal ítems for the day hike as water bottle, a camera and sun protection cream as you will have access to your dufle bags carried by the Porter sor horses at Lunch time and at the campsites because Porters always go ahead the group but the group is going to join for lunch and you can get your dufle bags.
Appropriate guear for Inca Trail or alternative hikes to Machu Picchu
We higltly recomend hiking pants and long sleeved T-shirts during the day, fleeces and waterproof jackets. It traveller are coming during the rainy season so we Recomend (rain poncho or jacket and/or rain pants) as the weather changes very frequently. We over camping nights we recomend warm clothing is required, down jackets can be useful. Amazing trip 100% worth the 4 day hike and better than just taking the train to Machu Picchu. Our guide Primo was full of knowledge and kept us happy and fed. Coolest thing I’ve ever done. The guide and porters are definitely worth the money since they carry all your belongings up and down 8000-13400 ft. If possible I would recommend getting to Machu Picchu more towards the afternoon because the main view was cloudy, but still visible. Also… ...
