Day 1

Day 01: Cusco – Sacred Valley (Huaran) - Cancha Cancha

This unforgettable adventure begins in Cusco, where you’ll be picked up from your hotel in our comfortable private transportation. After approximately 1.5 hours, we will arrive in the Calca District, nestled in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, we will take a 45-minute break to explore the vibrant local market, immersing ourselves in the rich culture and traditions of the region.

Next, we will continue our journey for another 30 minutes to reach the Huaran Community, situated at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level. This is where our Lares Trek officially begins. Our hike will gradually ascend through the stunning Huaran Valley, renowned for its lush flora and fauna. This area is perfect for spotting llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat, alongside endemic native trees and medicinal plants traditionally used by the ancient Inca community of Cancha Cancha as natural remedies.

As we trek, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of majestic mountains and snow-capped peaks in the Andes. This first segment of our hike will take approximately 3 hours, culminating at our campsite where we will enjoy a nutritious lunch. Here, you’ll have about an hour to recharge with our delicious menu, featuring local ingredients.

With renewed energy, we will continue our hike, taking in the first sights of the nearby snow-capped mountains. Within an hour, we will reach the ancient Cancha Cancha community, where we will set up our campsite. After settling in, we’ll visit a local home to learn more about their way of life. Engage in authentic activities such as helping to herd llamas and alpacas, visiting guinea pig farms, and, if time permits, stopping by the local school in the Cancha Cancha Community.

As the day winds down, we’ll unwind with some relaxing hot beverages and enjoy a hearty dinner, reflecting on the day’s experiences on this incredible Lares Trek to Machu Picchu.

Day 02: Cancha Cancha – Pachacuti Pass – Quishuarani

Our Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 days adventure begins early in the morning with personalized tent service and a cup of hot coca tea, perfect for acclimatizing to the altitude. Following a sustaining breakfast, our team will provide water refills throughout the day as we embark on our hike. Along the way, you'll encounter alpacas, llamas, and witness Cancha Cancha locals tending to native potatoes. Keep an eye out for the fascinating vizcachas, rodents that inhabit the rocky terrains.

Considered the most challenging day, you'll climb to the highest point of the trek, surrounded by snow-capped protectors – Pitusiray, Sahuasiray, and Colque Cruz. The breathtaking scenery at Pachacuti Pass, 4500 m.a.s.l., includes colorful lagoons, glaciers, and South American camelids.

Descending through the ancient Inca path in Lares Valley, you'll traverse diverse landscapes – from Andean landscapes to waterfalls, lagoons, and creeks then we will break for lunch some where near a lake for a perfect relaxing time after that we will haike for 1 more hour to culminate the hike in the ancient Inca community of Qishuarani, where our second campsite awaits for Us.

Day 03: Quishuarani – Cuncani – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

After savoring a hearty breakfast, embark on our exhilarating 4-day Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. The first leg involves a challenging uphill hike for approximately 2 hours, offering breathtaking panoramic views and encounters with llamas and alpacas grazing in the nearby valley. Marvel at the natural lagoons along the way, each creating unique microclimates that make this scenic journey truly exceptional.

Our trek culminates in the ancient Inca community of Cuncani, nestled in the Lares district. Here, immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting community schools and interacting with the children. Following this enriching experience, we'll board transport to Lares thermo medicinal baths for relaxation and a delectable lunch.

As the day unfolds, our private transportation will take us to Ollantaytambo train station, where we'll catch a train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. Day 04: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Today at a previously arranged time, we will embark on Machu Picchu tour via lares trek, starting very early in the morning to appreciate the sunrise at Machu Picchu and avoid the crowds, as the demand increases day by day, and nowadays we have around 5000 people per day.

Your tour will start having breakfast at your hotel then you will get bus ride towards Machu Picchu, taking approximately 25 minutes, and then reach the main access point. Our guide will lead you to the exact location in which the most famous Machu Picchu postal photo is taken; from here, you will start your 3-hour guided tour, including precise information about Inca civilization and the Machu Picchu citadel.

Following your tour, you will have some time to visit interesting places like Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (we advise booking the tickets with a minimum of 2 months in advance). After finishing the tour, our clients will board the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where the train station is located, and then catch the Vistadome train 360 view according to the arranged schedule to Ollantaytambo train station. Can I store my luggage at your office?

Of course! During your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, your main luggage can be stored safely at our office or at your hotel. Both options are free of charge. We advise you not to pack anything you will not need for your hike, ensuring you can trek light.

Do I need my original passport for the Cusco Machu Picchu tour?

Yes, it is essential to bring your original passport for your Cusco Machu Picchu tour. The passport number must match the one you provided at the time of booking, as rangers at Machu Picchu and train companies will meticulously check it before allowing entry or boarding. In case you are changing your passport or have lost it and obtained a new one, please send us your new passport information immediately to secure your permit and prevent any surprises upon arrival.

How do i get the student ISIC card discount?

Eligible students can receive a discount. You must possess a valid and current internationally accepted ISIC card in your name. You can apply for an ISIC Card. Please provide a copy of your ISIC card at the time of your booking by sending it to info@kenkoadventures.com.

How do I qualify for the student discount? (-$20)

According to Peruvian government laws, to qualify for the student discount, you must be under 18 years of age at the time of your trek, tour, or visit to Machu Picchu (students aged 18 and above generally require an ISIC card). For example, if you book a trek at 17 but turn 18 before your trek date, you will not qualify for the discount. Students from 12 to 17 years old receive a $20 discount, as do children from 2 to 12 years old. Children aged 0 to 2 are free. All students must send a copy of their passport at the time of booking to receive the discount; please send it to info@kenkoadventures.com.

How is the climate in Cusco?

The climate in Peru is highly variable and does not conform to the typical four seasons. Here in the Andes, you can experience all seasons in a single day! This is why we always recommend our visitors prepare for any occasion, whether it's for rain or sunny days. A significant factor affecting our global climate is global warming, which has contributed to glacier melting in the Peruvian Andes, impacting our weather patterns. Nonetheless, Peru, and particularly Andean cities like Cusco, have two main seasons:

• Dry Season: Generally from the end of April until the end of September, with the first rains beginning towards the end of this period. This is often considered the best time to visit our region and the amazing Machu Picchu to avoid inconveniences.
• Rainy Season: This season typically runs from October until the end of April. During this time, we advise all visitors to pack their belongings into waterproof bags, as sunny mornings can quickly turn into heavy rain. We understand that extreme climates exist worldwide, but this should not deter your desire to explore the world, discover marvelous cultures, and interact with them. How to book the tour?

To book our tour, we need you to fill out our booking form with your personal information by clicking on BOOK NOW. Please be ready with the following information for each participant in your group, exactly as it appears on your passport: full name, gender, passport number, date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy), and nationality. We cannot purchase an entrance to Machu Picchu or your train ticket without this precise information.

Huayna Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)

This iconic Huayna Picchu Mountain is located within Machu Picchu Archaeological Park, towering approximately 300 meters above the citadel. The hike typically takes about 45 minutes to ascend and another 45 minutes to descend. This Mountain preserves fascinating archaeological remains, such as the Moon Temple, and other precincts interconnected by authentic trails, steps, tunnels, and natural caves, making the view incredibly interesting. Without a doubt, this is one of the best attractions of Machu Picchu; the Huayna Picchu Mountain offers a 360-degree view and a stunning panorama of Machu Picchu Inca Citadel, Machu Picchu Mountain, and the famous Inti Punku (Sun’s Gate). Currently, the Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Culture, controls visitor entry, offering only 400 tickets per day, divided into two groups of 200 each (7:00-8:00 AM and 10:00-11:00 AM schedules). Due to high demand, it is necessary to make a booking at least 3 months in advance to guarantee your visit to this extraordinary place.

Important information for your tour

Machu Picchu Mountain (What is this hike, and how do I book it?)

This majestic Machu Picchu Mountain is also located inside the park, a hike of only 1 hour and 20 minutes on your own. Once you reach the summit, you will capture impressive photos with panoramic views of the entire valley, encompassing Machu Picchu Inca citadel, impressive vistas of the Andes Mountain range, and the glaciers that protect this unique ecosystem. The demand for permits for this hike is growing quickly, so we advise booking tickets a minimum of 2 months in advance, as there is a limit of 200 people per group per schedule (7:00-8:00 AM and 9:00-10:00 AM).

May I change the departure date after the tickets have been bought?

Unfortunately, no. Once the tickets have been purchased, the government does not allow any changes. Tickets are strictly non-transferable and non-refundable. We strongly advise you to confirm your travel dates before booking your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour.

 Note: If you cancel your Cusco Machu Picchu Tour, the deposit is not refundable at all!

What about the balance?

We greatly appreciate it if our clients can pay the remaining balance in cash (US dollars or Peruvian soles) during your briefing time at the hotel here in Cusco. For your convenience, there are many cash machines in the historical center for withdrawals. You can also pay the balance easily via PAYPAL Online.
